If, after looking through the website and reading about the research, support and work undertaken by the charities, you would like to make a donation to this challenge, please click on the 'Just Giving Crowdfunding' link immediately below.
Starting Tuesday, 1st September 2020, my aim is to cycle 2,448 miles (3.939 km), the original length (certified in 1926) of the famous US Highway Route 66, and to finish on (or before!) 30th September 2020. But I won't be touring across the US continent, instead I will be peddling around the 500 mile road network of Guernsey, Channel Islands.
The objective is to raise funds, which will be divided on a specific percentage basis, for three charities, the Macular Society (60%), a UK charity with an international reach, Mind Guernsey (30%), a local charity with UK affiliations and the Guernsey Botanical Trust (10%), a local community focused charity. Separate pages are included in this site to provide background to their work and why I wish to support them.
It would be a tremendous experience to do this trip for real, but the situation we are living through at present has put paid to such travel plans, but on reflection, this does mean a whole host of costs and expenses are eliminated and every penny/cent of sponsorship received will be donated to the three charities.
My support team will be me, my family, friends and hopefully those of you who are viewing this site and the Just Giving Crowdfunding page, which can be accessed by clicking on the above link.
The reason for using Crowdfunding is due to the percentage split for the donations. There are platforms that can facilitate such arrangements, but the charities need to be registered in the same jurisdiction and in this instance we are supporting a charity registered in the United Kingdom and two from the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
