If you want rugged, tear-resistant protection for hauling heavy gear in a desert environment, choose Rough Country Truck Bed Mat; if you need comprehensive, multi-layer weather shielding for a sedan or SUV parked outdoors, choose EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof. These two products solve entirely different problems, and while both promise durability, they are engineered for opposite ends of the vehicle ownership experience. One is a floor liner designed to withstand the abuse of a work truck in extreme heat, while the other is a soft-shell shield built to defend a passenger car against rain, snow, and UV rays. Confusing their intended use cases leads to poor results, so I am going to break down exactly where each product shines and where it falls short based on their specific design features.
• Rough Country Truck Bed Mat: Its biggest strength is the 3/8" thick Nyracord rubber construction that resists tearing under heavy loads, but its trade-off is that it is a fixed accessory limited strictly to specific truck bed dimensions. This pick is for owners of 2007–2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks who haul tools and equipment daily.
• EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof: Its biggest strength is the advanced multi-layer material offering all-weather defense including UV, rain, and snow protection, but its trade-off is that it requires precise sizing from a chart and is not designed for high-friction cargo hauling. This pick is for drivers of sedans, hatchbacks, wagons, or SUVs who need to park outside year-round.
The Rough Country Truck Bed Mat is a piece of industrial-grade flooring disguised as a simple accessory. At 3/8" thick, this is not a thin liner you can kick around; it is a substantial barrier made from Nyracord rubber. This level of construction suggests a product built for the harsh realities of off-road trails, desert driving, and the constant grinding of metal tools, tires, and heavy machinery.
The fit is non-negotiable. This mat is custom-molded specifically for the 6'7" beds of 2007 through 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models (including 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD). There is no wiggle room here. The knobby underside is designed to keep the mat securely in place, preventing it from sliding when you slam the tailgate or shift heavy cargo. The textured top surface adds another layer of utility by preventing items from shifting during transit. If you are someone who treats your truck bed like a mobile workshop or a cargo hold for off-road recovery gear, this mat provides the cushioned, skid-resistant foundation necessary to protect your paint from scratches and dents.
However, this product has very clear boundaries. It does nothing for the exterior of your vehicle, nor does it offer any protection against the elements for the cab or engine bay. It is purely a floor solution. Furthermore, because it is molded to specific contours, it will not fit any other vehicle make or model. If you do not own one of the listed GM trucks with a 6'7" bed, this item is useless to you. It is a specialized tool for a specialized job, prioritizing impact resistance and load security over versatility. You should buy this if you need to stop your truck bed from becoming a scratched-up mess after years of hard use, and you should skip it if you are looking for a cover to protect the entire vehicle from rain or sun.

In stark contrast to the heavy-duty rubber of the truck mat, the EzyShade Car Cover is a sophisticated textile solution designed to wrap an entire vehicle. The core value proposition here is the "Advanced Multi-Layer Protection." This is not a single sheet of plastic; it is a composite material engineered to be waterproof, wind-resistant, UV-protective, snowproof, dustproof, and scratch-resistant. The goal is to create a sealed environment around your car that blocks out the elements entirely. Whether you are parking in a desert where the sun beats down relentlessly or in a region with frequent storms, this cover acts as a barrier against moisture and radiation that would otherwise degrade your paint and interior over time.
The engineering details show a focus on secure attachment and visibility. The inclusion of three adjustable straps with click-tight buckles addresses the common issue of covers blowing off in high winds. Reflective strips are added for night visibility, which is a safety feature often overlooked in cheaper alternatives. The design also accounts for convenience with a side door zipper, allowing access to the vehicle without removing the cover, and mirror pockets to ensure a neat, aerodynamic fit. The presence of cable lock-compatible grommet holes indicates that security is a consideration for outdoor storage, preventing theft or unauthorized removal.
This product is ideal for anyone who keeps their car outside permanently. It is particularly useful for vehicles that see less aggressive, heavy-duty hauling and more stationary storage. You should buy this if your primary concern is preserving the exterior finish of your car from sun damage, bird droppings, tree sap, or winter ice. You should skip this if you need to load heavy, sharp objects into the back of a pickup truck regularly, as the fabric is not designed to withstand the abrasion of dragging tools or rocks across the floor.
• Best for extreme heat and abrasion → Rough Country Truck Bed Mat (Nyracord rubber resists tearing and cracking better than fabric).
• Best for all-season weather sealing → EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof (Multi-layer fabric blocks rain, snow, and UV rays effectively).
• Best for heavy cargo hauling → Rough Country Truck Bed Mat (3/8" thickness prevents cargo from shifting and damaging the floor).
• Best for paint preservation → EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof (Full coverage shields the entire body from environmental contaminants).
• Best for specific vehicle compatibility → Rough Country Truck Bed Mat (Molded perfectly for 2007-2019 Silverado/Sierra 6'7" beds).
• Best for versatile vehicle types → EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof (Available in sizes A & S for Sedans, Hatchbacks, Wagons, and SUVs).
• Best for installation speed → Rough Country Truck Bed Mat (Simple drop-in design requires no strapping or complex fitting).
• Best for wind resistance → EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof (Features adjustable straps and buckles specifically to secure against wind).
I would choose the Rough Country Truck Bed Mat if my primary activity involved desert driving with a work truck. The ability to throw heavy gear into the back without worrying about scratching the floor or having the cargo slide around is worth the lack of exterior protection. The Nyracord rubber offers a peace of mind that fabric simply cannot match when dealing with the physical abuse of off-roading or heavy hauling. However, if my vehicle was a daily driver parked outside in the elements, I would switch to the EzyShade Car Cover Waterproof to prevent the slow degradation caused by sun and rain. Ultimately, the Rough Country mat is the superior choice for the specific scenario of rugged, desert-focused truck usage because it prioritizes structural integrity and load security over cosmetic shielding.
Yes, the 3/8" Nyracord rubber is designed to stand up to water and extreme temperatures without cracking, though it is primarily a floor liner rather than a full sealant.
No, the EzyShade is designed for Sedans, Hatchbacks, Wagons, and SUVs; you must check the Vehicle Size Chart for compatibility, as it is not a truck bed liner.
