The aim of this analysis is to show the progressive growth in Kenya's debt amount between 2021 and 2025.
Key insights
Kenya's total debt growth grew 37% from 8.5 billion (2021/2022) to 11.8 billion (2024/2025).
Debt service crisis— The debt service percentage revenue for 2024/2025 was at 71.2%, being significantly above the 30% ceiling usually recommended by International Monetary Fund.
Domestic debt vs external debt- Domestic debt in 2025 was at 55.6% and at 48% .This shift caused aggressive competition for Micro,Small and Medium enterprises in Kenya
