Rosebud Toy Library has served the Southern Mornington Peninsula for 46 years, starting at the old Rosebud Library on the foreshore before moving to the new library as a set-up, pack up service and then finally to our current home. Unfortunately, the time has come again to investigate a new home.
While the shop front, we rent from the Mornington Peninsula Shire has served us well it does pose several limitations on our service. Firstly, we have now outgrown the space and can no longer:
Store our entire collection on site, in particular our party hire items we use to fund many of our expenses.
Run “Stay and Play” sessions, free playgroup like sessions that were a popular part of our offerings.
Facilitate member information nights such as the free child development sessions with Occupational and Speech therapists we have run in the past.
Host small events such as Science Week sessions for children, again events that were always well attended.
Introduce additional services such as our Kitchen Library which would help our members be more sustainable.
Additionally, as our current space is part of a commercial building it limits access to non-profit pricing for our utilities and other services, meaning we are paying more for access to electricity and communication. The process to make any changes to the building is often arduous and major changes such as installing heating or our “Click and Collect” lockers have not been possible.
Lack of facilities such as heating, adequate cooling in Summer, toilets, baby change area, a quiet space, an ability to turn lights on independently of each other and enough space to move around the shelving if using a pram or mobility device means our service is not accessible to the whole community and often uncomfortable for those who do access it.
We have entered discussions with the Mornington Peninsula Shire to see if there is an alternative location available. Our next meeting is in a little over a week, and we would like your input to help shape the discussion we have with them.
All respondents who completes the survey this weekend will receive a code to access our Big Box Play Day tickets before they go on sale at 8pm Sunday. These tickets will sell out so this is your opportunity to guarantee your family tickets.
