My teaching philosophy is based on the premise that learning is a lifelong process and thus age does not matter. Whether you are a student in college, retired, a spouse or a toddler, in everything that you do there is learning taking place. In the words of John Dewey, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” I believe that part of the beauty of life is making mistakes and learning from them. Growth and wisdom come with a price, and that price is different for everyone.
As an educator I have come across a spectrum of learners and have realized that in order to be an effective and successful teacher, a teacher must be versatile, animated, and above all patient. The teacher should be a role model for the students and inspire them to become active learners. Moreover, I believe that knowledge should be shared and accessible to all, as well as used to make a positive impact.
Preparing the learning environment is a crucial component when it comes to educating students, as it can aid in higher student engagement, enhance knowledge acquisition, and influence behavior. Therefore, a teacher should create an environment that invites creativity and collaboration as well as respect and the value of individuality. Hence, my goal is to prepare learners to solve challenges confidently, enhance their critical thinking skills, offer different perspectives, and apply higher order thinking.
