Rosa Anil George

A little about myself...

Hi! My name is Rosa Anil George. I am currently in the fourth year, pursuing a B.Tech degree in Information Technology at National Institute of Technology Karnataka

I was born in Kochi and at the age of three my family relocated to Dubai. Passionate, confident and outgoing would be three words to describe myself. I have been in love with coding ever since the 9th grade when we were taught Java programming. I knew that the IT field was the one I wanted to pursue. Computer science is a subject that I understand easily and am able to connect with. The fact that given a problem with just few lines of code a solution can be arrived is something that fascinates me. Although academics was my prime focus all my life, I have ensured that I participate in various extra curricular events like basketball, dancing, debating and even been self motivated to pick up new skills like playing the keyboard.

I have always been a really active person and I believe that life is too short to waste sitting around doing nothing, everyday is filled with new opportunities and challenges, facing them boldly and courageously is how we build our character. This is something I have and always will live by.

Academics

I have always been an avid learner. I was awarded the Sunny Varkey Scholarship for Merit on receiving 95.2% overall for the ICSE board. I graduated in 2016 with an overall 97% in boards and I was a world topper in Computer Science in the ISC Boards for scoring a 100%.

Leadership

Cygnus house won the Overall cup under my leadership

I was the House Captain for the academic year 2015-20

I have good leadership skills, communication skills and I can work well in a team. In recognition of these skills I was appointed as the middle school leader in the 8th grade after even after joining the school only halfway through the 7th grade (that was totally unexpected ;) ). Then I was also elected as the house captain of Cygnus house in 12th grade and this really gave me the opportunity to learn various skills in the process. I have been selected to be the coordinator for the first edition of Women in Technology Summit which is an IEEE event that welcomes participants from all across the country and is to be held in December at NITK.

IEEE

An executive member of IEEE-NITK student chapter, I am also part of the CompSoc special interest group and Women in Engineering affinity group.

I have written a blog article on quantum computing and it was appreciated by many which can be found here.

I have conducted knowledge sharing sessions and even helped out with all the events organized by IEEE NITK.

Projects and more

'Neural Voice Cloning with a few samples' is a project I am currently working on as a part of the year long projects in IEEE NITK. It uses Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence concepts.

Other projects I have worked on include SimpleDB which was a database management project and implemented core modules of a Relational Database Management System using JAVA, capable of handling storing and accessing data from disk, table modifications (Select and Join), BullyProof - Chrome extension which reports presence of sensitive content on Facebook pages and Chat Room Application - Java based project based on socket programming and multi-threading.

During the summer break after second year I took time to learn Android App Development and even built a cool music player. Courses on Machine Learning was something that I had been wanting to learn for a while. The hard work put in for internship interview preparation really paid off when I got selected by Microsoft to work next summer as a Software Intern.

Dance

Dance and Drama have always been a part of my life. I have been part of 4 musicals in school with 'Shakuntala' being the last production I was part of. I was very lucky to be among the top 10 dancers and took the opportunity to hone my skills.

Why I want to be part of this program

Empowering women to understand the various opportunities available in this field is something I am passionate about and also strive to spread this awareness in this field. I would like to be a part of this program so that everything I learn from it which would help better guide me, I will definitely teach everyone I can and help guide them as well.

I attended a one-day workshop in Kochi called Rails Girls Kochi in 2018.

In brief I would like to recall a beautiful moment that I will cherish forever. Before I had embarked on a trek to Nepal as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award, a teacher said to me remember to take it just "One step at a time". These words have always stuck by me and when I have loads of work to finish and feel like I don't know where to start I just take it one problem at a time and before I know it I would have completed the task.

So that's a little bit about my life and my experiences so far that have helped mold me to be the person I am today.
