Hi! I’m Roozbeh Soltani, a PhD student in Organic Chemistry, passionate about exploring the world at the molecular level. My love for chemistry started as a kid, fascinated by how simple ingredients could transform into something completely new. That curiosity has only grown over the years, guiding me through my academic journey and fueling my drive to discover, create, and innovate.
I thrive on solving puzzles in the lab, whether it’s designing a new molecule, crafting a functional material, or uncovering unexpected interactions. Outside the lab, I love sharing science in engaging ways, showing how chemistry connects to everyday life, society, and technology.
I am deeply interested in functional materials that bridge chemistry, biology, and technology. My work spans:
Nanomaterials – designing tiny structures with powerful, real-world applications
Hydrogels & Conductive Hydrogels – soft, flexible materials that can carry electricity and interact with living tissues
Peptide Synthesis – creating small protein-like molecules to guide material function
I’m especially excited about exploring how these materials can solve practical problems, from environmental challenges to biomedical applications. Each project is an opportunity to combine creativity, precision, and discovery, turning ideas into materials that are useful, innovative, and sometimes surprising.
I am currently pursuing my PhD in Chemistry at Dalhousie University, focusing on advanced functional materials and organic synthesis. I am working on gold (Au)/carbon nanotube (CNT)-binding peptide–hydrogel structures as conductive materials for biomedical applications. Before this, I gained extensive experience working with nanomaterials, MOFs, COFs, LDHs, mesoporous silica, and polymer membranes for applications such as adsorption, separation, and catalysis.
