What softwares/devices do we need for the classes?

We would recommend you use either a Microsoft computer or a Macbook, however, if you have a Chromebook you can use that for all of the classes with the exception of the 3D Sculpting class, for which you will need to download Blender. Due to the fact that many of the softwares we use are not compatible with Chromebooks, we offer you the option to use a website called repl.it, which is a browser based IDE. For the HTML/CSS/Javascript class you will be using codepen.io rather than repl.it. If you signed up to a 3D Sculpting class but only have access to a Chromebook, please email us and we can help you decide on a different program as soon as possible.

Do I have to sign up for both of the offered sessions?

No! You do not have to sign up for both of the sessions if you do not wish to do so, but we highly recommend that you do! If you have a scheduling difficulty that inhibits you from taking part in either sessions, please refer to to this question: "What can I do if I am in a timezone that can't join the PST lessons?"

Are lessons taught in both sessions the same?

Yes! If you signed up to the same class for both sessions (for example Beginners Java and Beginners Java), you essentially signed up for the same class twice. If this is you, please email us so we can help you pick another class.

What are Career Days?

On Career Days we will be bringing both professionals and students to talk to you about learning and working in the field of Computer Science. You will be able to ask these professionals questions about their jobs or their college careers.

Will we be receiving certificates?

Yes! At the end of the program, your teachers will sign off on a certificate and you will be recognized in a graduation ceremony.

What can I do if I am in a timezone that can't join the PST lessons?

Sessions will be recorded each day and uploaded to a google file which will be shared with you. In each session, there will be "in class programming exercises." To ensure you are up to date and are considered a RootTech student, you must complete these tasks to show that you are actively engaging and participating. You can then send these tasks to your instructors. If this applies to you, please email us to let us know so that we would be able to share the file with you. In addition, we also ask you to please NOT share this google file with anyone who did not sign up to the program.
