Rooted Words Counseling, LLC is the online counseling office of Jennifer Streets. 

I've been a counselor in various capacities since 2003 following a few years as a junior and senior high teacher. I work with women, children and men from all walks of life and backgrounds. I believe firmly in the individual's ability to change if they so desire, regardless of education level, socioeconomic status, or past challenges. I approach all people with an open mind and a non-judgmental attitude. Acceptance and kindness are important traits and ones I strive to show each and every person I meet, whether that is within my office or at the grocery store. When I say, all are welcome here, I truly mean it. If you or someone you know or love need counseling please feel to reach out. I have an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology, a masters in School Psychology, a masters in Counseling, and a bachelors degree in English with a minor in Marketing and Communications. I am trained in Trauma Focused CBT, Dialect Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Additionally I have attained Level One training in the Gottmann Approach to couples counseling and am pursuing Level Two training. 

I employ brief, solution-focused methods to resolve issues in a timely manner. I emphasize a family systems approach involving as many aspects of an individual's life in the therapeutic process as possible. I specialize in family issues, autism, ADD/ADHD in adults and children, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety and many other topics.

I have some very unique personal experiences as the mother of a special needs child as well as personally being a child and grandchild of divorce. I have inadvertently specialized in family issues and grief and loss as well as helping families to cope with a special needs individual.

In the school services setting, I am trained in PREPaRE Crisis Intervention. Additionally, I am experienced in areas of educational assessment. Due to scope of practice restrictions, I cannot assess for diagnostic purposes, but I am able to perform assessments to assist in educational placements as well as assessing to determine possible interventions and accommodations. These types of assessments can be helpful when requesting accommodations at the post-secondary level.

Services Provided:

• Individual Mental Health Therapy.

  • • Fees are determined based upon length of session. Base rate is $175 for intake sessions and $150 for each subsequent session depending upon time. 

• Family or Couples Mental Health Therapy

  • • Fees are determined based upon length of session. Base rate is $175 for intake sessions and $150 for each subsequent session depending upon time and number of participants.

• Mediation Services

  • • Depending upon the complexity of the issues, the base rate for fees is $200 per hour

• Educational Assessment Services

  • • Fees are determined by assessment goal and number of assessments required as well as complexity of assessments

    • Assessment services are provided for the sole purpose of determining academic needs and are not able to be used for diagnostic purposes due to scope of practice limitations. 

• Workshops and Presentations

  • • I have experience providing workshops and instructional presentations on trauma focused teaching, trauma focused interventions, special education accommodations for all walks of life and needs, but am particularly well-versed in conversations involing Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. 

While finances should never be a barrier to reaching out for help, we live in a world where we all have to pay the bills. At this moment in time I can accept most major insurance carriers. If I don't accept your insurance, you are welcome to pay out of pocket and I will provide you with a bill that you can submit to your insurance carrier independently. Additionally, I am open to exploring sliding fee scales. At this point in time, I cannot accept Illinois Medicaid or Medicare.
