Root Phenotyping Workshop, Forschungszentrum Juelich, Germany

On Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th February, a cohort of academics and industry representatives came together in Forschungszentrum Juelich, Germany for a workshop on root phenotyping under controlled conditions.

The event was jointly organized by three European Union funded consortia, RootEd, Root2Res and WishRoots. RootEd and Root2Res receive funding under the EU’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme, whilst WishRoots is funded by the EJP Soil programme.

The event spanned two days, with 60 participants  from 13 countries travelling to Juelich to share in scientific discussions on root phenotyping and to attend a selection of demonstrations in the following areas; Winrhizo & Smartroot, 3D phenotyping in soil, Gnotobiotic systems, GrowScreenAgar 2 & Rhizovision, Root washing and imaging and Rhizosphere sampling. The event also facilitated an excellent opportunity for networking between colleagues in root phenotyping from academia and industry. A number of participants (15) attended online for the presentation sessions.
