Privacy Policy — Roommates

Your privacy comes first

Last updated: August 2026

App name: Roommates

Package: com.roommates.app

Roommates is a roommate-finder and room-rental marketplace app. This page explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.

During the current local demo build, profile details, saved rooms, roommate favorites, recently viewed listings, posted-room drafts, notification preferences, and privacy toggles are stored on your device only. No personal information is uploaded from you to Roommates servers as an app user in this version.

1. Our Commitment to Privacy

Roommates helps you discover available rooms, find compatible roommates, post a room, save favorites, and explore shared accommodation options in a clean, trustworthy experience.

We designed Roommates so you can browse listings, view roommate profiles, use search and filters, save favorites, draft a room post, and manage preferences without being forced into unnecessary data collection. Protecting your privacy is a core principle of this product.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

In this local-first version, we do not collect, store on our servers, or transmit any of the following from you as an app user:

Your government identifiers (SSN, national ID numbers, etc.)

Photos from your camera roll unless you explicitly add them to a listing draft on your device

Your contacts list

Precise continuous GPS tracking

Payment card numbers or banking credentials

Roommates does not process rent payments, deposits, brokerage fees, or financial transactions inside the app.

3. Information Stored On Your Device

To power your experience, Roommates stores the following locally on your device only:

Profile details you enter (such as name, bio, occupation, lifestyle preferences, cleanliness, sleep schedule, pets, and smoking preference)

Saved room listings and saved roommate profiles

Recently viewed listings

Posted-room drafts and rooms you publish in the app

Search filters and roommate preference settings

Notification and privacy toggles

Inbox conversation state shown in the app

This information is not uploaded to Roommates servers in the current version and is not linked to a cloud identity. Data you manage in the app remains on your device — we do not receive it as a remote personal user profile.

4. Local, On-Device Processing

Roommates is designed for local processing wherever possible. Core features — including Home discovery, Search and filters, room and roommate details, Saved, Post a Room, Inbox UI, Profile, and Settings — run on your device using locally stored data and built-in sample marketplace content.

Your favorites, recently viewed rooms, drafts, and preferences are not sent to our servers for storage or processing in this version. An internet connection may be used to load listing and profile images from content delivery sources shown in the app.

5. Marketplace Content Only

All room listings, roommate profiles, amenities, house rules, compatibility scores, and recommendations shown in Roommates are for discovery and informational purposes to help you explore housing options.

Always verify listing details, roommate identity, lease terms, and payments independently before signing any agreement or transferring money. Roommates does not guarantee availability, compatibility, or housing outcomes.

6. Advertising

Roommates displays advertisements through Google AdMob to help keep the app free to use. Ad formats may include full-screen interstitial ads shown periodically as you navigate the app (for example, about every three taps on key actions).

Google and its advertising partners may collect and use information such as your device's advertising ID, approximate location (derived from IP address), app interactions with ads, and technical device data to deliver, measure, and improve ads. This data is handled according to Google's policies, not stored by us as a personal user profile.

You can limit ad personalization on your device through:

Android Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization

For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy at: https://policies.google.com/privacy

7. Third-Party Services

Google AdMob is used to serve advertisements in Roommates. We do not send your saved listings, roommate favorites, drafts, or app preferences to AdMob as personal profile information.

Roommates may also load remote images for listings and profiles when you are online. Those image requests are handled by the image host / content network and are not used by us to build a personal housing profile about you.

If you share a listing using your device’s standard share options, that sharing is handled by your device and the app you choose — we do not receive copies of shared content unless you explicitly send it to us.

When a future cloud backend (for example Firebase or a custom API) is connected for authentication, profiles, listings, favorites, messaging, or notifications, this policy will be updated to describe what is synced and why.

8. Cookies and Tracking

The app itself does not use browser cookies. We do not operate our own analytics or cross-app tracking services within Roommates.

Advertising partners (such as Google AdMob) may use identifiers permitted by your device and Android settings to measure ad performance. We do not build personal profiles about you based on your in-app browsing beyond what is required for ad delivery through AdMob.

9. Network and Permissions

Roommates requests only the permissions it needs to function:

Internet — required for loading listing images and displaying advertisements through Google AdMob

Network state — used to check connectivity before ad requests

Advertising ID — used by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads

We do not currently request access to contacts, camera (beyond what you may later choose for posting photos), calendar, SMS, microphone, biometric authentication, or precise continuous location tracking for background monitoring.

Approximate location shown on listings (city, neighborhood, ZIP area) is listing content, not live GPS tracking of you.

10. Data Security

Because the current version does not collect personal information onto Roommates servers from you as an app user, there is no remote personal login profile that can be compromised on our servers in this build.

Your profile edits, saved listings, drafts, recently viewed rooms, and preferences remain on your device unless you explicitly share content outside the app.

You can clear all locally stored app data at any time through your device settings.

11. Children's Privacy

Roommates is intended as a housing discovery and roommate-matching utility for adults seeking shared accommodation. It is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

12. Your Choices and Rights

Because the current version keeps your app data on-device, there is no remote personal account profile to delete on our side for this build. You can fully reset your app data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage:

Settings → Apps → Roommates → Storage → Clear storage

Package identifier: com.roommates.app

Uninstalling the app removes locally stored profile edits, saved rooms, saved roommate profiles, recently viewed listings, drafts, and preference toggles from the app’s private storage area.

You can also manage in-app privacy controls from Profile → Privacy settings (profile visibility, online status, messaging permissions, and location precision).

13. Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be available within Roommates on this screen. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
