Rooks at the Ridge is a welcoming, no-pressure chess club focused on building community, sharpening minds, and fostering creativity through the art of chess

Whether you're new to the game, returning after years away, or looking for thoughtful over-the-board play - you'll find your place here

How we structure the meetings will be shaped by your survey responses. For now - the plan is for each meeting to have:

• 30 minutes of group beginner instruction (if you are an intermediate player, feel free to show up as this portion is wrapping up)

• 60-90 minutes of over-the-board rapid play

• 30-60 minutes of blitz or chess variant play, depending on the week

This is a casual club, and so connection will be encouraged through casual conversation. If you wish to maintain a silent environment, please bring your own noise-cancelling headphones

Geared towards adult learners & improvers -- independent kids are welcome, too!

No experience necessary, and no rating required. Just bring curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to play

• Membership Fees - $0. We are a volunteer-run group, and hope to maintain this club as a free environment to connect over chess

• Equipment - boards & pieces will be provided by the club. We may ask that members download a free chess clock app on their phone to use for time controls (link available on the Resources page)

• Location - West Ridge Community Church (Lake Street & Nesler Road) has graciously offered to host our group. Exact room TBD
