Types of Roofing Shingles and Their Variations

The two types of asphalt shingles available are architectural and 3-tab. Both are set up in the same way. The visual aesthetic and manufacturing process of shingles are different. Three-tab shingles are made of a single, thick sheet of pressed, granule-coated asphalt-impregnated mat material. Due to their layout, they may rest relatively flat against one another, giving the roof an almost smooth, level appearance.

Several layers of asphalt mat material are compressed and adhered on a substantial base to create architectural shingles, also known as dimensional shingles. In addition to making the shingle more long-lasting and resilient, this design offers it a richer, layered (or 3D) appearance. Depending on the manufacturer, architectural shingles have a 30 to 50 year guarantee, while a 3-tab typically has a 20 year warranty. Back to Home Page
