Japanese Language Tutor

I am Japanese bilingual, having lived, worked and traveled in Japan. I developed a love and appreciation for Japan, the language, and the people. I want to share that fascination with others.

Patient and great tutor

"Ron has been teaching my three girls ages 11 to 6 Japanese since Oct 2011. He is an American business man who is fluent in Japanese. My kids are very interested in the language and he makes the learning fun. He is very patient with the kids and keep them in focus by giving them quizzes. I highly recommend him to teach other families."

I like tutoring because the content can be tailored to the individual, based on their circumstances and interests. I establish a solid foundation in understanding the sentence structure and build the vocabulary on top of it. I teach hiragana early to further aid in building a strong foundation for learning.

My Japanese background:

I lived in Japan for almost two years as a young missionary for my church.

I subsequently lived in Japan for two months doing a business internship for the Mitsubishi Corporation.

I've traveled to Japan on several other occasions for business and leisure.

I've been a computer programming tutor and instructor for two separate groups of Japanese employees of an Information Technology company, teaching them in their native language.

I've taught introductory Japanese to a variety of people, including:

  • a business person preparing to relocate to Japan

  • children ages 5 to 18 years old

I've also taught English as a Second Language to a number of Japanese and other foreign expats.

I'm very personable and enjoy working with people. I relate well to learners of Japanese because I've gone through it and understand their perspective and issues. I'm also a long time user of Microsoft Word and Excel, willing to help with pivot tables, conditional formatting, vlookup and other functions.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Utah State University, with an emphasis in Finance, and minors in Japanese and Economics.

  • Master's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, graduating with High Distinction (top 10%).
