BOOKING ESSENTIAL
A walk to Studley Castle, site of hunting lodge commissioned by Edward III in 1358. Led by Professor Roger Leech. Meet at 6.00pm [sunset is about 8.10pm] at the car park at Telegraph Hill Car Park on the B3078 from Cadnam to Fordingbridge, just east of the junction with the B3080 road to Fordingbridge, at Grid Reference SU 2283 1665. Parking spaces are limited (about 12) so sharing a car is a good idea. The walk is about ½ mile in each direction.

Meet at 9.55am at Beaulieu Road station (SU349063) in time for 10.10 train to Brockenhurst, fare £4.80. We then walk 4 to 4.5 miles back from Brockenhurst to Beaulieu Road station through Perrywood and Denny Lodge Inclosures. Option of lunch afterwards at the Drift Inn. It may be possible for those having lunch to park at the Inn, but, otherwise, there is a Forestry England car park opposite. Meet at 10am at Half Moon Common car park (National Trust, no charge, SU297177). To find this, turn left off the A36 just after the Whinwhistle junction near West Wellow, and the car park is on the left after 0.5 miles. This is a 5 mile walk around Half Moon Common, Stagbury Hill, Penn Common, and Canada Common. Option of lunch afterwards at the Rockingham Arms. Meet at 9.45am at Appleslade Car Park (SU184092, near the Red Shoot Inn, postcode BH24 3QT.) Allow a good 30 minutes to drive from Romsey. This is a 6 mile (3 hour) walk over Ibsley Common, and then following the Avon Valley Path to Rockford, returning via Rockford Common. If Forestry England are applying charging in the car park, we may be able to park for free at the Red Shoot Inn. Option of lunch afterwards at the Inn. Meet at 6pm at the White Horse Inn, Ampfield (SU400231). An evening stroll into Ampfield Wood, and back along the Monarch’s Way into Knapp Lane.
