Hi, I’m Romina Manuel, a psychology student and café reviewer based in Perth. Welcome to The Perth Bite, my little corner of the internet for café reviews, bakery finds and coffee spots around the city.
I’m a psychology student, and honestly, I used to really hate studying. Sitting at home for hours trying to get through readings, assignments and lecture notes always felt boring and unmotivating. Eventually, I realised that changing my environment made a huge difference. Studying felt a lot easier when I was sitting in a cosy café with a coffee, a pastry and a nice atmosphere around me.
That is where my love for café studying started. What used to feel like a chore slowly became something I could romanticise and actually enjoy. Going to a café made study days feel more calm, productive and a little more fun. It gave me a reason to get out of the house, try new places around Perth and turn uni work into a small outing rather than just another stressful task.
The Perth Bite is my way of sharing the cafés, bakeries and food spots that make student life feel a bit better. This blog focuses on places around Perth that are good for coffee, pastries, brunch, studying, catching up with friends or just treating yourself after a long week.
Through honest reviews and casual recommendations, I hope to help other students and young adults find cafés that suit their budget, mood and lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a study spot, a weekend bakery run, or somewhere cute to grab coffee, The Perth Bite is here to help you find your next favourite place.
Each café is considered based on:
affordability
food and drink quality
atmosphere/vibe
location and accessibility
study-friendliness
seating and comfort
overall value for students
Rating system will be rated from 1 - 5

Ground+Co is a good option for students because it is located inside the State Library of WA, making it an easy stop before or after studying. The vibe feels practical and relaxed rather than overly fancy, which suits the student-friendly focus of the page. It would work well as a “quick coffee and study break” recommendation

Bossman has more of a coffee-focused, local café feel. It seems best for people who care about good coffee and a relaxed atmosphere, rather than someone needing a full study session. Because it is described as having communal tables and a strong community vibe, it would be a good place for a casual coffee catch-up, but maybe not the best laptop spot.

Oxford Yard feels like a good all-round café for brunch, coffee or catching up with friends. Its Leederville location makes it suitable for a casual day out, and the mix of breakfast and lunch options gives it more flexibility than a coffee-only spot. It would fit well under a “brunch and catch-up” section on the website.

Teeter Bakery is the kind of spot that feels small, warm and genuinely worth lining up for. It has that hidden-gem bakery feel, with pastries, cakes, sandwiches and coffee that would fit perfectly on an aesthetic Perth food page. This would be a great place to feature if your website is focused on pretty pastries, local finds and weekend treats.

Laika is a good all-round café to include if you want your page to go beyond the CBD. It has a relaxed suburban feel, with house-roasted coffee and strong breakfast options. This would work well as a “weekend brunch outside the city” review. Urban List notes its house-roasted coffee, breakfast menu, seasonal dishes and outdoor-friendly setting

Miller + Baker is a strong CBD choice for people who love artisan bread, pastries and good coffee. It has a more minimal, polished feel, which makes it a good fit for a clean and aesthetic website review. It is especially useful to include because it works for both quick takeaway pastries and a more thoughtful “slow bakery” style post. Urban List highlights its pastries, bread, espresso, cardamom buns, pies and toasties, while Broadsheet notes it is one of the few Australian bakeries milling its own flour.
