Sergio Marín completed his Philosophy Degree at the University of Navarra (Spain) and gained his master's degree in Jewish Studies at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at the Department of Jewish Thought. Before joining Hebrew University, Sergio completed a postgraduate diploma in Classical Philology at The Polis Institute of Jerusalem. His master's thesis, entitled "A Conscience on Trial: Reading Philo's Life of Joseph against a Roman Background", examines Philo of Alexandria's notion of conscience in the context of the Latin rhetorical tradition and makes a case for considering this body of literature as a primary source to contextualize the forensic understanding of conscience and the physiognomic descriptions Philo introduces in his retelling of the story of Joseph.

His research interests lie mainly in Hellenistic Judaism, Roman philosophy, and the entanglement between philosophy and law. As a doctoral researcher in ROMANA – The Roman Turn among Jews, Greek Pagans, and Christians, Sergio will explore the ways Philo's descriptions of conscience reflect Roman conceptions of criminal and civil law and make use of metaphorical juridical language to visualize the inner dynamics of self-accusation and remorse.
