Geophysical Methods

Geophysical methods use geology (the study of the Earth’s physical structures) and the minerals’ physical properties (eg,, colour and softness) to detect minerals underground. For example, diamonds are formed deep in the Earth at very high temperatures, in "pipes" of an igneous rock called kimberlite. So, we look for diamonds in those igneous rocks!

A popular geophysical method is ground-penetrating radar. This method uses radio waves to capture images below the Earth's surface. The huge advantage of this technique is that it avoids disturbing the soil.
