How I Cracked Software Engineer (R&D) Interview in FSM

I’m currently working as a Software Engineer (R&D) at Frontier Semiconductor (FSM). FSM is a world-leading advanced metrology product and solution provider for the semiconductor industry. I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). I learned about the opportunity at FSM through a Facebook group post. The experience requirement for the role was 0-2 years and having problem-solving experience was highly encouraged.

Then, I went through the following recruitment phases before accepting the job offer-

Phase 1: Written Test

In the written test, there were 03 problems and 10 short questions. The total test time was 2 hours with a 10-minute break in between problem-solving and short test. The entire test was conducted online and at a specific time.

Problem-solving questions were from OOP, Data structure, and Algorithm. Instruction was given to use only C++ for solutions and OOP questions to attempt. The difficulty level and standard were similar to ACM ICPC questions (easy). Moreover, short questions covered core computer science topics.

Phase 2: Technical Interview

In this phase, there were 5 persons on board and the interview was conducted through a live Skype Video call. It was around a 45-minute interview.

The first person shared a Google doc and asked to solve an OOP question. Also, several questions were asked on the previous written test codes and their possible solutions.

The second person asked questions on Thread, Process, Bitwise operation, C++, and Time complexity. Also, the coding was in the same Google Doc.

The third person asked about Networking, IP address, Memory, and OS. Most of them were theoretical and scenario-based questions.

The fourth person asked questions about basic Image processing, its applications, and work experience.

The fifth person/Team lead asked about the programming contest experiences, Thesis, questions from CV, BSc. Projects, and mindset-related questions.

Phase 3: HR Interview

It was around a 15-minute non-technical interview. They discussed the technologies used in the company and other mindset and behavioral-related questions. Last of all, discussed the salary and ended the session.

I practiced from HackerRank, LeetCode and revised my class notes from BSc. for the preparation.
