Automata
Automata
Design Process:
The class began by constructing individual boxes in an assembly line, after which students explored themes for their designs. Using a six-step engineering design process, the objective was to create a themed box that demonstrated creative and critical thinking skills. One design concept that emerged was a waterfall theme, which guided the development and legitimacy of the final design. A critical feature of the automaton is its cams, which are essential for the movement of the follower; two offset pear cams and one hexagonal cam create the effects of jumping fish and a bumpy bear. This project emphasized the importance of critical thinking and thoughtful design choices.
