Assistant Distance Coach
Nicole has been coaching cross country and track and field for 19 years. I started as a middle school track coach at Parkside Middle School in 2005 before moving to Brentsville District High School where I helped coach 3 state championship cross country teams. While at Brentsville I also coached numerous state champions in track and field. Shortly after, I moved to Gainesville Middle School where I had the pleasure of coaching some phenomenal athletes who have since taken their success to the professional level. When I started teaching full time at Northern Virginia Community College in 2012, I had the joy of starting the Women’s Cross Country team there. In just our second year as a team we won the 2014 NJCAA Region 20 Championships and advanced to Nationals in Iowa. Next year, we repeated by winning the NJCAA Region again and heading to Kansas for Nationals. That year I also received the 2015 NJCAA Regional Coach of the Year for all my success in just 3 short years of starting the program at NOVA. We repeated at NJCAA Regional Champions the following year and then Runner Up in my last season coaching for NOVA. In 2022 I started coaching for Kettle Run HS where I am the assistant Distance Track and Field Coach.
Outside of my extensive coaching career from middle school through college level, I also helped coach for The Running Store’s Youth Cross Country program, where my husband Adam and I were the head coaches.
When I am not coaching you can find me cheering on my two daughters Suzanna, 16, and Brinley, 13 as they play travel soccer or run track and field!
Throws Coach
Coach Porterfield brings a wealth of experience to the track and field arena, excelling in shot put and discus during high school. With six years of coaching experience at both Patriot High School and Kettle Run High School, I am deeply passionate about developing athletes not only in their sport but also as individuals. My dedication to nurturing talent and fostering personal growth on and off the track drives me to empower each athlete to reach their full potential.

Assistant Distance Coach
Raphaella is in her second season as the Assistant Cross Country & Track and Field Coach for Kettle Run High School. She has many years of experience with running, and has years of experience from running at the collegiate level, to running at the NCAA Division 3 school, Hood College. She is a Level 1 USATF Certified Coach, is very passionate about running, and currently still runs and trains for races. She believes in having fun, staying positive, and always believing in yourself.
Assistant Sprint Coach
I am a second-year assistant coach under coach Marley.
Previous experience: I ran all four years of high school, all under coach Marley, and followed up by going to run at VCU and then transferring to UMW.
I run around with the athletes during their workouts and serve as an example of what is expected throughout the drills and body positioning.
Jumps Coach
I work with the sprints, jumps, and hurdles as an assistant coach at Fauquier HS. Along with correctly planning the physical preparation of the sport, I believe in developing a holistic, interdependent athlete. The base of my experience and coaching education comes first from Fauquier HS, then from Cornell University, where I was an all-conference long jumper and team captain. I am also a licensed massage therapist with a broad, applied background in sports medicine, and I use that skillsets to inform injury prevention and rehabilitation.
