Uncle Chuck Stand-Up Comedian Circa 1964

From Roger: "I’m sending this 8-minute clip to you guys only … because it was recorded in Chuck’s home in the early days of our California relocation. I found this clip on a random reel and there was nothing written on the box to identify when it was recorded. Do you have any clues? I don’t remember Chuck being such a comedian, but he was truly on a roll. And Mom was his best audience … you can hear Lorry’s unmistakable laugh throughout. "

Ken and Carolyn 1972

Ken & Carolyn Wish G & G Kemp Happy 50th Anniversary Feb 6 1972 from seminary in Deerfield, Illinois.

From Roger: "This one is your shared Golden Anniversary greeting to Charles and Dorothy in February 1972. Obviously, you were both at Trinity. And Ke"n ... I gotta say ... your preaching has come a long way since 1972!"

Gail Sheldon 1975

Gail Sheldon to Lorry APRIL 25 1975

From Roger: "One of the issues that arises while transferring 45-year-old cassette tapes is learning that labels don't always reflect actual content. For instance, I paid to transfer an old cassette that was labeled "LORRY -- GAB!" I couldn't wait to hear Mom's voice again.

What I received was a conversation recorded by Gail Sheldon. Gail listened to Mom's GAB ... and then recorded over the same cassette and sent it back without a new label.

This debacle has happened a couple of times ... but it's the price of rescuing these treasures from extinction.

Nonetheless, it's interesting hearing Gail talk in real-time about family issues. I'm sure she never intended me, the voyeur, to step in 45-years later to eavesdrop on their private conversation. But we intuitively knew that Gail and Lorry were always swapping family stories, right?

Lori Kemp and Gladys Severson

Interview with Gladys Severson October 25 1981

From Roger: "When Lori was studying at Cal State Fullerton, she was required to conduct and "oral history" with one of her relatives. She chose to speak with Gladys Severson ... on October 25, 1981. We had the reels transferred and the one-hour audio file is accessible by using the above link to DropBox. I know your time is limited, but this conversation is worth listening to ... and I hope our kids and grandkids will find this interesting someday, too."

Ken's Farewell to Del Rel EFC

Ken Kemp Farewell Message June 13 1971

From Roger: "This was your farewell sermon at Playa Del Rey Free Church on June 13, 1971. It was recorded on reel-to-reel, but the quality was awful. Lots of ambient noise in the room. I did the best I could to tweak the EQ, but even so ... it's challenging to hear. In spite of the poor quality recording, it's fascinating to hear you preach 49 years ago! Don't miss John Stensether's closing comments. Great memories!"
