Rogelio “Roger” Aranda was born and raised in Tamazula de Gordiano, Jalisco, Mexico, where his connection to art began at an early age. He immigrated to the United States in 1967, bringing that passion with him and finding new opportunities to develop his craft. While attending art classes in California’s East Bay, he discovered a particular love for oil painting. Though he received some formal instruction, Rogelio is predominantly self-taught, developing his technique through years of practice, observation, and artistic intuition.
At just twenty years old, Rogelio was commissioned by a priest in his hometown to create a 12-by-18-foot canvas mural. The work remains on permanent display behind the altar of the Chapel of Aguacate in Mexico. Over the years, he has continued to explore a range of mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and pencil.
Rogelio has exhibited his work through the City of San Ramon and participated in local art competitions and exhibitions, including the Alameda County Fair, where his work received an Honorable Mention. He has also created commissioned pieces for private clients, working closely with them to create distinctive artwork suited to their spaces and vision.
Inspired by the beauty of the natural world, Rogelio is especially drawn to landscapes and still lifes. His work reflects a deep admiration for the places and subjects he paints, with the hope that viewers can step into each scene and experience some of the beauty that first inspired him.
Now, with more time to devote to his art, Rogelio is returning to a lifelong passion with renewed focus—continuing to paint, exhibit his work, and accept select commissions.
