The summer school gives an introduction into finite reductive groups and representation theory. Finite reductive groups are closely related to finite simple groups of Lie type. Both the groups themselves and their representation theory lean a lot on algebraic geometric methods, and can only be understood via tools steming from there. On the other hand nowadays questions on their representation theory lean heavily on a good understanding of character theory. The meeting will comprise three minicourses which give an introduction to this exciting field aimed at PhD students. Some recent developments will be covered in additional research talks
