A conference on the science pioneered by Rodolfo Barbá

  We will gather at ESAC for two and a half days to honor Rodolfo Barbá, our friend and colleague who passed away unexpectedly on December 2021. We encourage those other colleagues from the massive star and related communities to join us in this event and to share with us results that Rodolfo would have loved to hear from you, as well as good memories about Rodolfo. The meeting will start at mid-day on Wednesday 18 September 2024 and will last until the afternoon of Friday 20 September 2024. We will discuss the scientific issues in which Rodolfo did pioneering work: massive binaries, O stars, Galactic structure, stellar clusters, H II regions, variable stars, the Magellanic Clouds, IR astronomy, and extinction. The meeting will be preceded by another 2.5-days meeting organized by the VFTS consortium and is coordinated with the IAU Commission on Massive Stars.

The meeting has no registration fee. Lunch will be available at the ESAC cafeteria. We have asked for funding to cover for the coffee breaks and for bus transportation from downtown Madrid in the mornings (noon on Wednesday) and afternoons.

The meeting will include keynote talks by the SOC members on the science and person of Rodolfo, as well as invited speakers on the science topics that interested Rodolfo. Those interested in attending can use the registration link below and optionally indicate if they are interested in presenting a talk or a poster. Registration will remain open until Saturday 1 June 2024.

We have reached an agreement with the editors of CEAP to publish the proceedings if a minimum number of people express an interest during the meeting. The idea is to leave a document about the science that interested Rodolfo and about his achievements that will remain in history.
