Introduction
My name is Rodolfo Gómez, I am 20 years old, and I've known Spanish and English my entire life. I started having an interest in other languages thanks to a French class I took in high school. I'm currently learning French, Russian, Portuguese, Serbocroatian and Japanese; I'm also planning on learning Dutch , Swiss German, and Romanian someday. I also like to draw and play insturments; I play guitar, bass, and piano.
As a language enthusiast, learning both the basic and proper ways in terms of interpretation is vital since I partake in interpretation and translation in my daily life thanks to my friends being all foreigners. Developing my interpretation skills is quite important to me since they will help me not only become a better translator and interpreter but also help me learn other languages since I will have something to back up my knowledge. I plan to use my skills in the future as a traveler or in a professional setting, maybe as a teacher.
In this class we take a look at consecutive translation, specifically from Spanish to English, via video pratices which serve to teach the importance of consecutive video translation and its components such as audio, video quality, fluency, tone of voice, and more.
In this class we take a look and explore the world of CAT tools and computer assisted translation thanks to tools such as MateCat, SmartCat, CafeTran Expresso, and in some cases, MT tools such as DeepL or Reverso. The constant comparisons and use of said tools will help us be more critical with any type of translation; it serves to take a first step in professional translation.
