Anti-radiation shelter: safety for patients and medical personnel

On January 16, 2023, an anti-radiation shelter was opened at the Rivne Regional Children's Hospital. The warehouse will be used both for the stay of patients during air raids and for the uninterrupted provision of medical assistance to patients in case of danger.

The anti-radiation shelter has four entrances/exits, an elevator, equipped with a ventilation system, heat and water supply, an additional source of electricity from a diesel generator, and 16 oxygen points. The total area of the premises is 468.8 m².

Currently, the anti-radiation shelter has a ward for the Neonatal Center, an intensive care unit, an operating room, a postoperative room, shelter halls, bathrooms, a shower room and other rooms.

According to the head doctor of the KP "Rivna Regional Children's Hospital" Vitaliy Boyka, the shelter is a multi-functional room where comfortable conditions are created for patients and staff of the medical institution. There is all the necessary equipment for the work of medics during their stay in the warehouse. In peacetime, the storage premises are planned to be used as a temporary full-fledged department.

"The chief doctor of the children's regional hospital packed the idea of a bomb shelter in such a way that it is a full-fledged department of almost 500 square meters. And indeed, we have revised our attitude towards shelter. Because the shelter is not only for a "dark day", but it should be a functional space, which: a) is always used, b) provides protection for safety," emphasized the head of the Rivne OVA Vitaliy Koval.

And until recently, there was a basement with concrete walls at the site of the anti-radiation shelter. Repair work began in September of last year, and during this short period of time, our patients during air raids will not only receive uninterrupted medical care, but will also be able to wait out the danger in comfortable conditions.

Received a new Toyota Land Cruiser car

The other day, a 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser car was handed over to the Rivne Regional Children's Hospital. From now on, a traveling mobile team of pediatricians will work on this car.

The institution received a modern car thanks to the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Rivne Regional Military Administration, the Department of Civil Protection and Health Protection of the Population of the Regional State Administration and the Red Cross Society of Ukraine of the Rivne Region.

A modern car with increased cross-country ability will significantly improve the availability and quality of medical care for children from remote settlements of our region.

After renovation and modernization, the trauma center of the orthopedic and trauma center opened its doors for little patients

During the works, the premises of the center were completely modernized, an autonomous power system was installed, walls were decorated, plumbing and electrical wiring were replaced, new furniture and medical equipment were installed, operating rooms, rooms for medical manipulations and vaccinations were arranged.

The round-the-clock children's trauma center is the only structural unit in the region that provides emergency and urgent care to children with traumatic injuries of the musculoskeletal system, receiving more than 10 thousand children every year!

17th Congress of Children's Surgeons of Poland

Surgeons of the communal enterprise "Rivne Regional Children's Hospital" of the Rivne Regional Council took part in the 17th Congress of Pediatric Surgeons of Poland, which was held in Poznań!

On the occasion of Surgeon's Day, our delegation consisting of Vitaly Boyk, Igor Segin, Mykola Polishchuk, at the invitation of our Polish friends from Olsztyn - Tadeusha Politevich, Voitecha Choinskego, Michaela Pulinskego, took part in the 17th Congress of Pediatric Surgeons of Poland in Poznań.

Igor Segin's report on a unique case of surgical treatment of caudal regression in collaboration with prof. Voitechom Choinskim was held at a high international level.

Opening of the Family Room in the Rivne Regional Children's Hospital!

The Ronald McDonald House Foundation in Ukraine opened the sixth Family Room in the Rivne Regional Children's Hospital of the Rivne Regional Council. From now on, even more families will be able to be close to their critically ill children and receive support and resources when they need it most.
