Q: How strong are your repairs?
A: Very strong. Out of over 125 frame repairs, I have never had one fail. Many of my repairs are being ridden by aggressive enduro, gravel, and XC racers. Several repairs are 6+ years old and going strong.
Q: Is this safe?
A: I wouldn't be doing this work if it were not safe. Contrary to popular belief, carbon frames very rarely snap. Sure, if you get hit by a car or a tree, but not if you are just riding along or even heavy duty mountain biking. There are several repairs that I don't usually do, like handlebars or broken head tubes for example.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Basic, non complex frame repairs start at $230. If there are multiple cracks or there is complex work involved, the prices is adjusted accordingly.
Q: Should I just buy a replacement frame?
A: I would always suggest talking to your local bike shop about warranty possibilities, but in general, crashes are not covered under warranty. Frame failure during normal use is definitely a warranty. I can often help you make that decision and happy to do that at no cost. Please ask!
Q: How long does it take?
A: Usually about a week but I can turn around rush orders much quicker.
Q: Can you repaint my frame like it was?
A: No, I don't have painting skills or equipment. The labor, equipment and supplies involved in color matched painting is so high that it could triple the cost.
Q: Can you fix my broken handlebars or fork?
A: Not generally, but please ask. This usually isn't worth it cost wise and gets into some extremely complicated carbon layup schemes. I have patched some carbon forks that suffered tire rub damage but I wouldn't repair a completely broken fork.
Q: Are there parts of bikes you won't work on?
A: A few, yes. It's much more challenging to work on frame joints, bottom brackets shells that won't hold your bottom bracket, or pivot bearing sockets. I would be happy to look at any damage to be sure.
Q: Do you warranty your work?
A: Yes, I offer a 5 year warranty on repairs. If the repair fails or doesn't perform as intended, I will either repair my work or refund your payment. I cannot cover a replacement of your frame.
