Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Rocks & Rockets on August 17, 2024, from 1:00-5:00 pm at the Colby Event Center in Colby, KS. It's FREE, open to all, and jam-packed with geology and space science fun! This come-and-go event is perfect for all ages – stay for a few hours and dive into the excitement. Families are encouraged to attend together, and the event is designed to be engaging for both children and adults. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Free: Thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Kansas Geological Foundation, attendance at this event is FREE for any participant. Every attendee can even take home a FREE science book, and all children are entered to win additional door prizes!
Embracing Inclusivity: Our event held at the Colby Event Center, which is ADA accessible, complete with an elevator. Our setup includes thoughtfully spaced tables, making it easy for wheelchairs to navigate. And the excitement doesn't stop there – we have activities for all ages and abilities, from sensory bins to mineral identification. Many of our activities are adaptable to any age or ability of the participant. We also have translated many of our activities into Spanish, and we have FREE Spanish Books to give away.
Engaging Activities: "Rocks & Rockets" brings you a lineup of fun activities you wont see anywhere else. From exploring Giant Mars Maps, an astronaut training course, fossil digs, mineral identification games – the list goes on! Check out our Past Activities for a glimpse into the fun experiences. Even if you have attended in the past, there will be new activities to explore.
Scientific Exploration: Attendees will have the chance to interact with scientists and volunteers from different scientific backgrounds, including students and faculty from universities. This provides a unique opportunity for hands-on scientific exploration and learning. In the past we have had geologists, astronomers, chemists, and physicists.
