Teacher Professional Development
K-2: Educators in Grades K-2 engage in various platforms to support their early learners. These include Code.org's CS Fundamentals, CS4All CS Blueprint and Scratch. All of these platforms touch upon introductory computer science concepts that support early learners as they begin using and building programs with technology and computer science.
3-5: Educators in Grades 3-5 work with Scratch Creative Computing where they focus on the use of Scratch, a block-based coding platform where students can create stories, animations, games and more. Educators have the chance to engage with Scratch through a Computational Thinking lens, learning to support students in developing skills that can be used across curriculum.
Administrator Professional Development
Session1: Intro to SCRIPT & CS Visions
Mouse will introduce administrators to computer science in New York State and the SCRIPT process. After two introductory computer science activities, districts will get to craft their own unique visions of computer science education for their schools across K-12
Session 2: SCRIPT Rubrics 1, 2, 3 & Goal Setting
Mouse will introduce administrators to the first three rubric areas in the SCRIPT process: materials and curriculum selection, leadership, and teacher capacity and development. Administrators will have time to select their current rubric ratings and set goals for improvement over 6 months, 1 year, and 5 years
Session 3: SCRIPT Rubrics 4, 5, 6 & Goal Setting
Mouse will introduce administrators to the last rubric areas in the SCRIPT process: partners and community. After setting their current rubric ratings and identifying goals for the future, administrators will have time to take tangible actions toward their goals. Mouse will also introduce administrators to the CS Coaching Cards from Cornell Tech to support their CS teachers throughout the year.
