What is a DRP like?
A Directed Reading Project is an opportunity to explore a mathematical topic beyond the standard undergraduate curriculum with guidance from a graduate student mentor.
The DRP is designed to be flexible and exploratory. Rather than following a fixed course syllabus, you will work with your mentor to read and discuss mathematics at a pace appropriate for your background and interests.
Regular Meetings
Regular Meetings
Meet regularly with your mentor, typically once a week, to discuss the material, ask questions, and plan what to explore next.
Independent Reading
Independent Reading
Spend some time between meetings reading, working through examples, or thinking about questions related to your project.
Flexible Pace
Flexible Pace
Projects are tailored to each student's background. You and your mentor can adjust the pace, topics, and reading materials as the semester progresses.
At the End of the Semester
At the End of the Semester
At the end of the semester, students will have the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned and share their experience with the DRP community.
Students may also have opportunities to share what they have learned through a short presentation, informal discussion, or other format.
