We will be playing at the courts at Rochelle High School, located at 1401 E Flagg Rd, Rochelle, IL 61068. Bathrooms, water fountains, basic concessions, and a tennis garage sale will be available. There are some benches and bleachers for seating, but feel free to bring your own chairs/tents/umbrellas.
Don't forget to bring $40 ($20 for MSers & HSers) and a can of balls per division with you to complete your registration. We will have cans for sale if needed. Please pay by cash or check (payable to "Rochelle Tennis"). We will have Venmo available as well in case of emergency. The $40 is a flat fee that covers all divisions you're playing in, plus you'll receive a tournament towel. If you pay Friday, you don't have to pay again on Saturday or Sunday. Thanks for supporting our HS tennis programs!
You can expect to be playing for the entirety of your scheduled chunk of time. With the larger divisions, you may have one bye round during that time, but otherwise you'll be on the courts! You may have byes in the first rounds of your division, so please be at the courts around 30 minutes prior to your first match as we will try to move ahead of schedule if possible.
We are playing a Round Robin tournament with each round consisting of a total number of games played. For example, you might play 6 total games against each opponent, or 8, or 10, depending on the size of the division. Expect to play around 30 games per division. For the divisions that have 10+ entries, you will be divided into several pools. You'll play everyone in your pool and then the winners of each pool, and occasionally some 2nd place pool winners, will play for the "championship". Winners of each pool are determined by TOTAL GAMES WON, not by win/loss record. So it is possible that you beat everyone but still don't win your pool.
Awards will be given for 1st & 2nd place in each division, with 3rd and 4th place awards for some divisions with 10+ entries. Winners are determined by total number of games won (or in pool play, winner of "championship" match). In case of a tie, the first tie-breaker will be head-to-head record. If still tied, the tied entries will play a 12-point tiebreaker (this includes the pool play final rounds, if tied in the match, a 12-point tiebreaker will be played.)
Anyone that is interested, there's a great tennis rating system called UTR (Universal Tennis Rating). This is a way to evenly rate players on a scale from 0-16 from beginners all the way to the pros. It's a fun way to be able to find similarly skilled players in your area, and be able to see how you stack up against the best in the world. I, for instance, am only 11.5 points behind Carlos Alcaraz!! That's attainable, right? 😉 If you are interested in signing up for a FREE UTR account you can do so here: https://www.utrsports.net/. Then, if you are interested, I can enter your results from our tournament into the UTR and you can get updated rankings, all for free. You can do this even if you didn't sign up for the "UTR Singles" division. This also has a possibility of leading to future tournaments where you enter by your rating, rather than age, so you could be playing people at your skill level which makes for more fun! Create your account before you arrive and we'll ask you at registration if you want your scores added.
