Rocco DeLorenzo, a Cornell University alumnus, achieved distinction through a challenging dual-degree program encompassing the realms of Food Science and Applied Economics and Management. His studies in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, coupled with his involvement in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, provided him with a foundation in both the scientific and strategic aspects of the food industry. Rocco specialized in business and earned his degree in food science. He focused on strategy and food industry management in his economics coursework, crafting a skill set tailored for leadership in the food sector.
His membership in Chi Psi Fraternity significantly shaped Rocco's university life. It was here that he not only found a community but also began to explore his leadership potential. He served in essential roles such as Risk Manager and Academic Chair, positions that allowed him to contribute positively to the fraternity's culture and safety standards, laying the groundwork for his later responsibilities on a broader scale.
As the VP of Membership and Alumni Development on the Cornell Interfraternity Council (IFC) Executive Board, Rocco's leadership expanded to include overseeing fraternity engagement and alums initiatives across 28 fraternities. He was instrumental in developing critical programs such as comprehensive Hazing Prevention Training and engaging the fraternity community in inclusive events like a large-scale Spikeball Tournament, fostering camaraderie and community engagement.
Responding proactively to a drug overdose incident within the IFC community, Rocco led the charge in implementing Narcan Training and Naloxone distribution. This move not only addressed immediate safety concerns but also catalyzed a campus-wide adoption of these critical health measures.
The latter part of 2022 presented significant challenges with allegations of sexual misconduct within the fraternity community. Rocco's response was swift and decisive; he facilitated the suspension of all fraternity social activities and spearheaded the creation of a sexual violence prevention plan. This plan focused on Environmental, Empowerment, and Educational strategies aimed at creating a safer and more respectful community ethos.
Beyond fraternity life, Rocco took on the role of Vice President of Finance in the Cornell Student Assembly, where he adeptly managed the complexities of the Student Activity Fee during a period marked by economic inflation. His efforts ensured that student organizations remained financially viable and well-supported, reflecting his deep commitment to the student body's welfare.
Rocco also made his mark nationally as a member of the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Advisory Council. In this capacity, he influenced broader fraternity policies and practices, sharing his insights and innovations with fraternity leaders across the country, thus impacting the national fraternity landscape.
To complement his academic endeavors, Rocco pursued internships with key industry players such as Giovanni Foods, Mondelēz International, and Restaurant Brands International. These experiences allowed him to apply his classroom knowledge to practical challenges, particularly in quality control and product development, enhancing his industry readiness.
