RobStat Symposium 2027 is an international mini-conference dedicated to recent advances in robust statistics and trustworthy data analysis. The symposium will bring together leading researchers and emerging scholars to discuss methodological developments, theoretical foundations, computational techniques, and interdisciplinary applications of robust methods in modern statistics, data science and machine learning.
Hosted by the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, the symposium aims to foster scientific exchange, strengthen international collaborations, and promote robust statistics within the broader statistical and machine learning community.
A special felicitation ceremony will be held in honor of Prof. Ayanendranath Basu in recognition of his outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of robust statistics.
Prof. Basu is currently a Professor (HAG) at the Indian Statistical Institute and served as the Acting Director of the institute in early 2026. He has authored 3 books and over 150 research papers in his illustrious career spanning over 40 years. An experienced research mentor, he has supervised 11 doctoral dissertations and numerous master's theses.
His pioneering work on minimum divergence methods has laid the foundation for many modern developments in robust statistical inference and machine learning. He is an elected fellow in the National Academy of Sciences and a recipient of the prestigious C.R. Rao National Award in Statistics. He also served as the Editor of Sankhya (series B), the official journal of the Indian Statistical Institute.
Marking the year of his retirement, the ceremony will celebrate Prof. Basu's pioneering research, exceptional mentorship, and enduring influence on the development and advancement of robust statistical methodology.
