Google Fonts collaborates with type designers, foundries and the design community worldwide to create a directory of open source fonts. The fonts are free to use, making beautiful type accessible to anyone for any project.

I completed a project in Indesign. When I reopen the Indesign file, Indesign gives me a "missing font notification" for the Roboto font. I originally installed them through Google, then deleted them and reinstalled them through Adobe Fonts. Still, I get this messsage.

My client is waiting since hours for the files which I cannot send him because I cannot get such a simple task as fonts showing up in my document to work. When I open creative cloud and click on active fonts, I see a "turning symbol" but nothing loads.

This suggests that there is a problem with activating the fonts on your system. You say you tried "all the solutions offered on the Adobe website" but I don't know if you've seen this list of troubleshooting tips:

The problem is probably the OS, which cannot cope with having 2 fonts of the same name installed, using two different systems. Best is, when having installed the font, to stay with that solution, except if there is an excellent reason to change.

When I have fonts that won't install via InDesign, I install them via It's not as comfortable as the InDesign solution, but it works. Most of the time, Closing InDesign and restarting it solves the problem, however.

Drilling down a little further going through manage fonts/installed fonts in creative cloud app you may see fonts with conflicts. Roboto was already installed on my system so removing the specific versions of it with the conflicting icon from adobe fonts allowed me to have adobe fonts activated and have roboto work.

I expericence this many times every month in cc 2023. Not only with roboto, but with fonts that exists in both TTF and OTF version. Indesign pretends to use the one not installed (and installing the other version of font it doesn't work anyway).

The only working solution is to save the idml, open it in CC 2021 (or previous), fix the fonts (many times it is not necessary, they are altready applied correcly), save as indd and re-open it in 2023.

Windows 7/8, Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home and Professional), and Windows 2000 have built-in support for OpenType fonts (both .otf and .ttf), as well as PostScript Type 1 fonts (.pfb + .pfm) and TrueType (.ttf). You can use the Windows Fonts control panel to install or remove fonts of all these formats, though the control panel is accessed slightly differently between Windows XP and Windows 2000. See the instructions below.

Note: If you wish to use PostScript Type 1 multiple master fonts with Windows XP or Windows 2000, you need to install ATM 4.1 or later, and follow the instructions below for installing fonts in Win 98/NT/ME. Do not install ATM 4.0 or earlier on Windows 2000 or XP.

If you are running Mac OS X, decide if you want to install fonts into both the Classic environment and the OS X native environment. If you want your fonts to be accessible to both Classic and Carbon/native applications, install your fonts into the Classic environment. If the fonts only need to be accessible to Carbon/native applications, install into the OS X native environment instead.

Recently I needed to edit one of my schedules in adobe acrobat DC, and it contained a specific font that I think is created by google or something: Roboto Light. Here is the message I got when I tried to edit:

I would really like to edit in the Roboto light font, is there a way to install the font onto my system? The Minion Pro font looks very different in comparison to the existing one. Basically, how do I add a font into Adobe acrobat DC? Is there a native way to do it, do I have to first install the font in my system itself, or do I need to use any 3rd party add-ins?

Bottom line is that it should be easy to edit your text in a PDF file in which contents are formatted in members of the Roboto font family. Make sure you restart Acrobat after downloading and installing the Roboto fonts on your system. You don't need any third party plug-ins!

Hi together,

today I opened a file I created half a year ago where I used Roboto as font. Suddenly, out of nowhere Indesign is telling me that fonts are missing and lists Roboto ... (otf).

But I never used any otf Roboto. Half a year ago, I had Roboto activated via Adobe Fonts. And I still have. Nothing changed since that.

In my case, I have Roboto active through Adobe Fonts (OTF), but some days ago, Regular weight suddenly became "variable", although I cannot modify the variable settings of the font. When I export to PDF, Roboto regular can't be seen at all.

Creative Cloud desktop must be running and you have to be signed in to Creative Cloud for the fonts to be added. If the software isn't running or you have signed out of Creative Cloud, the fonts will be unavailable temporarily.

If you are using Adobe's Creative Cloud and you have Roboto set as a font, you may run into issues where all things in Chrome then get Roboto Bold. I disabled the font from Adobe Fonts and it fixed my issue, but in some Google products like GMAIL, Sans Serif is bolded and you can't turn off the bold. I don't know why and I can't find any good information on how to resolve that.

If your on windows and have access to your fonts library through the control or command center you can simply find a free download of the font that you need and copy them into your fonts library. restart adobe and you should have the new fonts

Forget all the broken-record advice about Adobe Cloud from the gimps here, just scroll down to the post by Oleg Sidarenko in the above link and follow his directions. Managed to add fonts to DC (that had previously been installed to Windows) manually.

What people are asking--and I've run into this myself--is that you can install otf/ttf fonts in Windows and they will NOT be accessible in Acrobat DC. If you're trying to repair a document from someone else, that uses a given font and you can't find it via DC for either the File-Print to Adobe PDF--edit method, or the Preflight method, then you can't do the work.

It is a bit tricky.

1. The font which you want to activate using the Adobe CC app can be previewed in the font tab of the adobe application which you are using. *When the font is not available for editing it just shows the name.

2. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud app and go to the fonts tab.

3. Enter the font you wish to activate in the search tab.

4. You will be redirected to a page in the web browser. Just double-click the font and then click on the active tab on the top right-hand side.

5. Restart the Adobe application to use and edit.

I also have this issue and would very much like it resolved. I have tried to recommended items and the font is on my adobe creative and my machine but the pdf editor refuses to offer or use it. This is such a huge pain and may mean I completely change the font of the document which is extremely frustrating.

So, have got some unique fonts via creative cloud, which I use in word, but then when I convert to pdf, I cannot get those fonts?????????? How bloody ridiculous, when I got the fonts via adobe in the first place!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

I have the same issue on Mac 10.13.6 Acrobat DC Pro 2019.

Missing fonts are installed on the sytem and they show up in Ilustrator but not in Acrobat.

Tried to clean cache and preferences but nothing worked.

Any idea ?

I have activated 3 fonts from Adobe Fonts via the Adobe Creative Cloud. They appear in the word font menu, but when I convert to pdf, the fonts are automatically changed. When I go into edit pdf, I an see the Adobe Fonts there, so I can manually change them. It appears however that I cannot embed them, as they do not appear in any of the embedding font sources.

I had a small pop up. It included a few font choices. It also had a few choices in fonts like Staple font, Medium, Dark and you could select which font of your choice. I can't find it.

Please help

I have quit Adobe Acrobat Pro DC many times and it has not worked. the font is installed in my Windows system (i use it in Word) but Adobe does not recognize it. Any way to get it to recognize the font?

I have tried everything to add Roboto fonts to creative cloud to be used in InDesign but nothing works. First, I click on the "f" in the upper right hand corner, and it just spins and spins saying loading. The next thing I tried was going to Adobe Fonts website and 'Activiating all Robot Fonts." Even though it shows as activated, Whenever I try to export my design it says following fonts (Roboto family) aren't currently available.

I had the same thing, only with other fonts, and I really needed those. The fact is that fonts are one of the key design details in general. I am sure that according to the font, as they say, they meet.

I am having a similar issue to Mark Altin. I was able to install the google font on my system and see it in the captivate project after applying the JavaScript code as an action, however fonts with multiple weights were not shown, but rather all text under the same font appeared as the same weight. Is there additional code that needs to be added to differentiate between what weights of the font should be shown?

i have access to lots of type through my adobe account, which allows for embedding of webfonts. the instructions for doing so are pretty cryptic. here are two screens with code i can copy, but am not sure where each of these bits of code go within the squarespace interface.

the specific css rules are pasted into "design > custom css" but needs the requisite html tags such as h1, h2, h3, p. the code offered from adobe or google usually looks like this: ff782bc1db
