This course examines the figure of the nonhuman-human and representations of artificial beings in the German imaginary with a focus on issues of technology, art, philosophy of subjectivity, and culture. Discussions include imaginary and real robots, cyborgs, homunculi, and automata as representations of humanity’s understanding of futurity and innovation.
