Abstract: Rehabilitation robotics presents a fundamentally different HRI challenge than performance enhancement. Success is not defined by how well a user performs while assisted, but by whether they develop a motor skill that can be retained and transferred once the robot is removed. This workshop, Beyond Task Performance: Designing Robots for Human Motor Learning and Rehabilitation, examines robot design through the lens of human motor learning, with emphasis on mechanisms that differ between healthy and clinical populations. Structured around four themes, measuring, modeling, modulating, and clinical applications of learning, we aim to build a shared framework for learning-centric robot design principles that support long-term functional recovery.
