My name is Katie Robles and I live in West Bloomfield with my husband and three sons. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. In 2009 I received a Masters in Educational Technology from Michigan State and I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Learning, Design, and Technology from Central Michigan University.
I am certified to teach any science class, but I have taught Chemistry since 2012. I started my teaching career in Alabama, but I have been with the Troy School District ever since. In addition to teaching, I also serve as the Tech Chair and Technology innovation coach for my building. I have a passion for educational technology and a specific career goal to go farther in district technology integration or find something that combines ed tech integration with curriculum development. I have spent the last 10 years volunteering for every opportunity to work with teachers and central office staff on curriculum and technology. For example, in addition to working on a second masters degree, I am also becoming Apple Coach certified to help as many people as possible.
Humans are born naturally curious, my goal is to help people stay that way. My instructional goals are never to memorize facts or learn definitions, instead I want my students to make discoveries and ask questions. I feel as though wrong answers are sometimes the best ones because they can take learners on a journey less traveled.
In my classroom I act as a facilitator and a friend. Social and emotional support is just as important as subject matter, if not more. A classroom atmosphere where students are comfortable enough to talk to each other, share ideas, and ask questions is a place where real learning can take place.
Lastly, the role of technology in my classroom is never to outshine human's spirit of inquiry. Instead technology should aid in collaborative, constructive, authentic, deep learning. I want to not only use technology in my classroom, but I would like to share my knowledge with my peers so that all students can have an amazing tech experience.
