How can I get my own smile painted?
For a limited time, Robin will be painting the smiles for others. Scroll below and read the instructions for getting your own smile on a mask!

For a limited time, if you are in my Friends group on Facebook, you can leave a comment in the original post with a request for me to paint your own face to be printed on a mask.
Here are the instructions:
- To have your own face painted and available as a mask, you must commit to purchasing at least 4 masks from the Cara Sonrisa Designs shop. (That means 4 more masks get donated to the charity Heart to Heart International! That means you get a 20% discount!) NOTE: if you want me to paint your smile, you do NOT have to get all 4 as smile masks, you can also choose from the selection of hundreds of original patterns I've made to give you fun options to choose from each day.
- Mention your interest and commitment in a comment in my Facebook post. We can discuss the rest via Facebook private message.
- Take a photo of yourself. I'll need your full head and, if you have a gray card (something photographers find handy) or something that is neutral gray to hold next to your head when you take the shot, I'll have a better chance of getting your coloring closer to yours. Otherwise, I can only guess at the accuracy of the white balance of the image. Try to put the gray next to your face, but please don't cover your face with it. Pull your hair away from your face, too.
- The higher the resolution of the image, the more accurate the results will be. Keep this in mind before you offer up an image that is highly compressed or only a few 100 kilobytes. If you have a camera with higher resolution than your mobile phone, that is a much better option! If you only have a mobile phone, here are some tips: -don't get too close, or your face will be distorted by the wide angle lens. Also, there are many camera apps for phones that allow you to shoot "raw", which might enable you to save a higher resolution image then the small resolution most phones offer (yes, even the 12mp iPhone camera is quite small in resolution once it is compressed). I can open most raw images, if you want to give me a link to the larger file instead in our private message on FB.
- You MUST be willing to have your smile mask up on my Redbubble shop at least until you've purchased your minimum 4 masks. (It is not your whole face, so you won't be recognizable). Please let me know when we message if you want it removed immediately after your purchase (or, you can leave it up there for others to buy).
- Yes, you can have a friend's smile painted instead -- how nice of you to want to do this for them! Let's make sure that we have their permission first ... ;o).
- If there are wrinkles or blemishes that you don't want in the smile painting, let me know. I can make your smile young again!
- If you're a gal, make sure you are wearing the color lipstick you want -- no other makeup is needed; it's just your smile and I won't be doing your eyes in the painting .... ;o)
- If you're a guy, please make sure that you have a fresh shave or beard trim -- because I will be trying to match your photo to the best of my ability!
- Let me know any other requests you want for your smile mask -- a crazy or unique painted design over your smile like these or these, and if you have favorite colors, etc.
- There are no guarantees that I will be able to get to yours, if I get a huge number of requests. I will do them on a "first-come, first served" basis, until I am exhausted. (I can paint about 1 every other day)
Don't forget that for every mask sold, one mask will be donated a mask to Heart to Heart International. Heart to Heart International works with volunteers, partners, and donors to make healthcare more accessible.

I recommend you get the "Small Mask", as they run very large in "Regular". See instructions below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING MASKS
The elastic on the masks for the "Regular" size run rather large (I've tested). I recommend that you get the "Small Mask", unless you have a really large face, or prefer a very loose mask. The mask itself is the same size for both, only the elastic is shorter on the Small. If you are unsure, you can get the Regular and, if it is too large, you can always stitch the elastic to your desired snugness.
Somewhat unintuitively, don't click on the "Size" option, click on the "Type" and choose "Small Mask" as shown in the screenshot below. (NOTE: you can also get a Fitted mask, but in the Patterns only. I cannot make the "Smile masks" available in the Fitted mask due to placement restrictions -- the mask is first printed, then sewn, which would distort the smile.)
I love my smile mask and get a lot of positive comments on it ("What a great idea!" and "How fun!", they say.) These masks are super soft and breathable (great for exercise!). For extra protection, wear over your regular mask.

Q: How effective are different types of face masks? Which cloth masks work the best?
A: Different types have different levels of effectiveness, according to researchers at Florida Atlantic University. They compared four types of face masks commonly used by the public: a stitched mask with two layers of fabric, a commercial cone mask, a folded handkerchief, and a bandana. Researchers tested each to see which would likely offer the most protection if someone coughed or sneezed.— The stitched mask with two layers of fabric performed the best, with droplets traveling only 2.5 inches. — With a cone-style mask, the droplets traveled about 8 inches. — A folded handkerchief performed worse, with droplets traveling 1 foot, 3 inches. — The bandana gave the least amount of protection of the cloth masks tested, with droplets traveling 3 feet. — Still, any kind of cloth mask is better than none, the researchers found. Without any covering, droplets were able to travel 8 feet. “People need to know that wearing masks can reduce transmission of the virus by as much as 50%, and those who refuse are putting their lives, their families, their friends, and their communities at risk,” said Dr. Christopher, director of the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
