Version 1.0 September 2024
Tested on Maya: 2023
Sticky Mod Transfer is a Maya tool for 3D animators, which allows you to easily transfer Sticky Mods created with Sticky Mod tool (by fRigging Awesome Studios) and their keys from one scene to another.
Give a look at the video or read the guide below if you want to see its functionalities.
Get Sticky Mod Transfer from the official Gumroad link above. You will receive an email with a license key and a link to download the script.
After downloading the zipped folder, uncompress it and move rm_StickyModTransfer folder (the one without the Version number in the name), to Maya scripts folder.
You can find Maya scripts folder here:
on Windows
<user’s directory>/Documents/maya/scripts/
on macOS
Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/scripts/
With Maya open, simply drag the file Installer.py onto the viewport to add the tool to the current shelf. Click on the new shelf button to run StickyModTransfer.
For this tool to work, you need to have original js_stickyMod folder inside the same Maya scripts folder.
The first time you run StickyModTransfer you'll be asked to insert a license key. Copy and paste the one you received by email when purchasing the product on Gumroad.
Run StickyModTransfer on a Maya scene where you already have some Sticky Mods.
In the Export tab select the Sticky Mods that you want to export from the list. Click on the mesh name if you want to select all the Sticky Mods related to that mesh.
Tick Current Frame if you want to export the attribute values of the selected Sticky Mods at the current frame only. Tick Playback Range if you want to export an animation of the selected Sticky Mods. Set the Playback Range to the animation range you're interested to export to avoid exporting keys you won't need.
Click on Export, choose a name for the export file (leave the file extension as .json) and select the directory in which you want to store it.
Run StickyModTransfer on the Maya scene where you want to import saved Sticky Mods. If you already have Sticky Mods in this scene, be sure that they are not on the same mesh where you want to import the ones that you're transferring. If you already have Sticky Mods on that mesh, rename their hierarchy in the outliner to custom names.
Click on Select Sticky Mods file, find the directory in which you previously stored the export file and select it. Now choose the Sticky Mods that you want to import from the list. Click on the mesh name if you want to select all the Sticky Mods related to that mesh.
Tick At current frame if you want to import the Sticky Mods pose/animation at the current frame. Tick At source frame if you want to import the Sticky Mods pose/animation at the same frames of the Maya scene from which they were exported.
Click on Import. New Sticky Mods will be created at the same location of the source ones and their pose/animation will be keyed at each frame of the chosen interval.
StickyModTransfer is granted to work when transferring Sticky Mods between two identical meshes, with same name, same namespace and same vertex order.
If the mesh with Sticky Mods also has some sculpts on it (blendshapes, sculpts made with AnimPolish tool by fRigging Awesome Studios), be sure to transfer the sculpts first, then transfer Sticky Mods.
If you have applied constraints to the Sticky Mods in your scene, bake the animation of the constrained Sticky Mods and delete the constraint before exporting Sticky Mods with StickyModTransfer.
