April 11-13, 2025: I provided transportation for two undergraduates to SUnMaRC in Tempe, AZ. While there, I recorded our group's activities at the behest of Monika Nitsche. The albums can be found here.
April 5-6, 2025: I attended the AMS 2025 Spring Eastern Sectional Meeting in Hartford, CT (link). There, I gave a talk titled "Minimal Error Functions on Irregular Subsets of the Real Line".
January 16, 2025: I served as a judge at the Rio Rancho Public Schools Student Research Expo, having received a request through UNM's Math Department. I spoke with about a dozen bright students about their mathematics-related projects. Many of them worked with AI and I can honestly say I learned a good bit from them. I grilled them about their projects, trying to get a sense of their understanding of the science involved. One particularly innovative project seemed to be a student's attempt to grapple with infinitesimals in what he called "paradox math." I do not know where these projects will lead, but I was encouraged to see the level of creativity in the students of New Mexico.
January 8-12, 2025: I attended the annual Joint Mathematics Meeting in Seattle. To fund this trip, I was one of fifty-four people to receive University of New Mexico's Doctoral Conference Presentation Award. I gave a ten minute presentation on the new results I have discovered regarding the upper and lower bounds of Chebyshev Polynomials on semi-regular sets. I also attended a special session on energy minimization problems and was invited to the upcoming Shanks Conference at Vanderbilt University. There were several other interesting talks, such as a presentation on a new translation of Archimedes. I went to the AMS reception and reconnected with some people I had met at previous meetings, and I was thrilled to meet Stephen Abbott, author of Understanding Analysis. Afterwards, I had some time to do a little sightseeing, visiting the Museum of Popular Culture and taking in a live theater show. Despite fighting a cold the whole time I was there, it was still a fine experience.
April 6, 2024: I attended the Southwestern Undergraduate Mathematics Research Conference (link). This conference has been running since 2004 and is an opportunity for undergraduates to present new findings. I helped set up a few things and manned the entry station where latecomers would sign in. I had a good time chatting with students about what they were working on and sharing knowledge.
May 2024: Received Outstanding Graduate Student for Teaching Award, University of New Mexico Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Sep 2024 – May 2025: Graduate Teaching Scholars, invited to meet monthly to develop new teaching methods and conduct a research project on secondary education.
