I’ve always been drawn to the world of building and design, and over time I realized that structural engineering is the path that fits me best. When I was younger, I dreamed about being a construction worker, simply because I loved the idea of creating something real and lasting. As I grew, my interests shifted from imagining rockets, to picturing myself as an architect. Eventually, all those passions came together and pointed me toward structural engineering, where I can bring together my love for design and construction in a meaningful way.
I’m currently enrolled in a two-year engineering program at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center. While I haven’t had the chance to take part in many other programs yet, I’m definitely looking forwards to exploring more opportunities in the future. Being at the tech center has already helped me grow a lot, especially when it comes to communication. I’ve become much more confident in expressing my ideas clearly and effectively.
During my life, I’ve been involved in theater, which has shown me that teamwork and good communication are essential for everything to run smoothly. Besides school, I’ve taken a few simple online classes on civil engineering. Although I haven’t had a full-time job, I’ve done some part-time work with a small family restaurant, helping out with food stands and weddings. This experience taught me that hard work reflects your dedication and that you just have to keep pushing forward.
Once I complete my high school education, I am considering enrolling in a community college. However, my ultimate goal is to attend a university where I can pursue a degree in civil engineering, which I am very passionate about. I am not inclined to attend a trade school unless I decide on gaining additional knowledge in the future. During my college, I am likely to get a part-time job to begin reducing my student debt.
After I changed my career goal, I want to help my community by figuring out better ways to build structures that fit the climate around better. I really would love to make a difference in the world by creating or designing something new and efficient that can help many people. I hope to have a positive effect on the world and truly make a difference.
