I believe Creativity is a way of thinking, living, perceiving, and presenting something differently. It may not be licit, but it better be a striking one.
Here are some activities I find reasonable for me. And perhaps you can try them too!
Read a paragraph from a story, understand it, and then try to imagine various interpretations of it. Write down all the variations you can think of.
With all the variations, you're likely to come up with a combination of words forming a unique sentence. However, be sure not to lose the true meaning and essence of the reference sentence.
Try using a single word or two while expressing the meaning of an entire sentence. Or, find another way to say it — in a more lively and elegant manner. Also, you can elongate a short sentence into two different ones.
Focus on word choice parameters, as it is crucial while being creative with a story. Similarly, the tone is the fundamental element of your creative essay. Stick to neutrals at first, then add in some aggressive flavors.
Give your thoughts plenty of room to wonder and wander. Creativity can't live in a constricted neighborhood. Let it loose for lengths, but make sure to leash it.
Learn about plenty of idioms, phrases, and synonyms. They help in giving character and style to your creation.
Watch operas, classical dramas, and videos of artistry — the sources of raw inspiration.
Listen to casual podcasts, dramatic monologues, and when you’re beat — scare the Shakespeare out of someone!
Example: “What if I answered the phone without starting with the word — Hello!" You must have noticed a public speaker trying to create an environment before putting across his point. It's because the technique enables him to strongly persuade the audience.
Creativity comes with a picture in your mind. You can imagine a plot of an intense story, but you may not have the right words to justify it.
Solution; Start jotting down whatever comes into your mind. Never mind your tone, structure, or grammar.
Because as you continue, you start getting a faint sight of the horizon across the ocean. The more you row ahead, the clearer you see it.
Yes, reading materials online or offline will greatly help. But I prefer the offline reading activity. There is something more attractive about reading physical books, novels, and papers. I feel something is sucked out of a story while consuming it virtually. Have you felt it too?
Creative writing is the art of putting together words in a way that seems appealing and carries a deeper meaning. It should be inspiring and informational for your readers. I would say Creativity is wild, don't tame it, but shelter it in a colossal ranch to let it run freely. Watch it, nurture it, and love it wildly.
