Roadfolk (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a road-trip planner operated by ThinkEdgeApps. We built Roadfolk to be private by default: the app is fully usable without an account, your trips live on your device first, and we do not run ads, analytics, or any third-party tracking. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it.
The short version: No ads. No tracking. No selling your data. You can use the entire app as a guest. If you create an account, we store only your email and the trips you choose to sync — and you can delete all of it at any time.
Account information (only if you sign up). Your email address and a securely hashed password. Passwords are stored using bcrypt and are never kept or transmitted in plain text.
Your trips and stops (only if you enable sync). The trips, stops, and notes you create. These are stored on your device and, if you sign in, backed up to our server so you can access them on other devices.
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device location to show where you are on the map and to provide turn-by-turn navigation. Your location is used on your device. To draw routes and load map data, coordinates may be sent to the mapping services listed below. We do not store your location on our servers or link it to your identity.
What we do not collect: no advertising identifiers, no analytics, no contacts, no browsing history, no payment information (the app is free and has no in-app purchases).
To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
To back up and sync your trips across your devices.
To show maps, search for places, and calculate routes and travel times.
To send a password-reset code by email if you request one.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
To provide maps, place search, and routing, the app requests data from open mapping providers. When it does, technical request data (such as map coordinates and your IP address, as with any internet request) is shared with them so they can return the map tiles, search results, or route. These providers include:
OpenStreetMap and its tile/data services (map data and points of interest)
Overpass API (live places such as campgrounds, fuel, and food)
Nominatim (place search / geocoding)
OSRM (driving routes and travel times)
Map tile providers used for basemaps (e.g. CARTO, Esri, OpenTopoMap)
These services have their own privacy practices. We only send what is needed to display the map or fulfill your request, and we do not attach your account or identity to those requests.
Account and synced trip data are stored on servers operated by ThinkEdgeApps. Connections to our server are encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. Your trips also remain stored locally on your device so the app works fully offline.
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.
You can permanently delete your account and all trips stored on our server at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app. This action is immediate and cannot be undone.
You can also request deletion by emailing us at the address below.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption in transit and bcrypt password hashing. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect in the first place.
Roadfolk is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app, or by contacting us. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
