Oct. 3-6, 2023 Kingston, Washington

Retreat Summary Document

A Summary Document of the Fall 2023 Retreat is coming soon.

Field Trip Sites

Port Gamble S'Klallam Hatchery and Point Julia

The new Port Gamble S'Klallam Hatchery includes a new garage, egg incubation room, and a new drum filter for water. The architecture of the building took rising tides into consideration, as the second floor of the building is still operational, even if the waterproof first floor is submerged.

Heronswood Gardens

Heronswood Gardens serves as a showcase for Port Gamble S'Klallam culture and the diversity of the botanical world.

Port Gamble S'Klallam Relocation Sites

Across from the Longhouse are sites that homes have been moved from due to the eroding cliffside. Those involved in relocation process for those homes spoke to the cohort about the environmental hazard at the site and their experiences with asking community members to move.

Host Tribe and Retreat Location

Thank you to the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe!

The Fall 2023 Retreat was generously hosted by the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe in Kingston, Washington. Most retreat sessions were held in their Longhouse, though field trips and their locations are mentioned above.

Traditional Clam Bake Dinner

Yet another thank you to the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe for hosting a Traditional Clam Bake Dinner for all retreat attendees! We enjoyed clams and crab outside, and dancing, songs, and even more food back inside the Longhouse. This was a wonderful opportunity to socialize with one another and have a lighthearted gathering in the midst of such important work.
