NIST Summer High School Intern Program The Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP) is a NIST-wide summer intern program for students who will have finished their junior or senior year of high school by the start of the program and are interested in scientific research only. All other high school applicants who do not want a summer research position should go to NIST Student Employment Programs for information on other NIST Programs. Students selected for this competitive volunteer program will participate in cutting-edge research at NIST, and will work closely with NIST staff scientists and engineers on a specific research problem.

Summer Political Internships. Google "political internship" and you will find listings or you can cold call a local representative that you would like to work for. From an IB alumni, "I would encourage RM students to cold-email campaign managers for local campaigns to ask if they are looking for interns and to offer their time/expertise...Campaign work was one of my favorite parts of high school".

Johns Hopkins Summer Internship, The ASPIRE program at APL is a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to experience and explore STEM careers before committing to an area of study in college. During the intensive summer session and the longer academic-year session, ASPIRE interns are paired with APL staff mentors to complete projects, solve problems, and learn and apply crucial technical and interpersonal skills in a hands-on, professional environment. During their internship, students also have access to many of APL’s considerable technical and professional resources. The ASPIRE program is an unpaid learning experience and is not a job.

Bank of America Student Leaders Since 2004, Student Leaders has been part of our ongoing commitment to youth employment and economic mobility. Preparing a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students with the leadership training they need to be successful in the workforce is vital to our approach to driving responsible growth and helps to build thriving communities. Through our Student Leaders program we connect more than 300 community-minded high school juniors and seniors from nearly 100 communities to employment, skills development and service. They're awarded paid summer internships with local nonprofits such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity and participate in a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C. The Student Leaders Summit focuses on skill building and creating a more civically engaged society. Note: in-person events will be in line with local and national guidelines around gatherings and travel and may be subject to change.

US Navel Research Lab NRL participates in the Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) during the summer in cooperation with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and as part of the Department of Defense SEAP. This program offers select high school students a unique opportunity to explore and pursue careers in science and technology by opening to them NRL's vast, varied resources and by allowing students to spend eight weeks working full-time on unclassified tasks. Under the direction of NRL scientists and engineers, students actively engage in research problems, planning sessions, special program seminars, and writing and presentation of a final research paper.

Army Educational Outreach Program: Army-sponsored research addresses the Nation’s biggest challenges. An AEOP apprenticeship provides the opportunity to be part of the long history of discovery and innovation for the benefit of our country.

MIT Online Science, Technology & Engineering Community Since 2011, the MIT OEOP has provided over 1,500 scholars with a transformative and life-changing experience through our MOSTEC program. And we are encouraged to continue to grow our online community this coming summer. Our MOSTEC program provides a meaningful and fun experience for rising high school seniors, where our scholars learn about new and cutting-edge technologies in science and engineering, build a strong community of friends and mentors from across the globe, and receive support and coaching in the college application process, all at no cost.

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD) NASA Internships are competitive awards to support educational opportunities that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as educators. These opportunities serve students by integrating interns with career professionals emphasizing mentor-directed, degree-related tasks, while contributing to the operation of a NASA facility or the advancement of NASA's missions.
