I teach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies (WRDS) department. In addition to chairing this department, I've also led writing centers at the University of Central Florida, UNC Charlotte, and California State University, Chico. My research interests include literacy practices in popular culture, teacher and tutor education, writing program administration and assessment, and transfer of learning.
I'm the author of Around the Texts of Writing Center Work: An Inquiry-Based Approach to Tutor Education, winner of the 2018 International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) Outstanding Book Award. I've published chapters in several edited collections and articles in journals such as College English, The Writing Center Journal, WLN: A Journal of Writing Center Scholarship, Composition Forum, and others.
Recently, I've been trying my hand at creative nonfiction, which has appeared in The Timberline Review, Lunch Ticket, Sand Hills Literary Magazine, Passengers Journal, Hippocampus Magazine, The Fourth River, Peauxdunque Review, and others. A first short story appears in The Dillydoun Review.
