During the 1970s and 80s, a publicity bureau that gained attention for its writing and artwork operated in Kottakkal. This establishment, RK ARTS, was founded by the exceptional artist Palathingal Radhakrishnan. Later, it flourished and expanded under the guidance of another talented artist, Palathingal Gangadharan. RK ARTS, originally founded by this remarkable artist who passed away prematurely, eventually evolved into what is now known as the RK School of Fine Arts, a renowned art training institute.
The institution was established with the goal of deeply understanding and teaching fine arts. By incorporating ideas from existing art education methods, RK School of Fine Arts follows a creative and innovative teaching approach. In addition to a two-year teacher training course in fine arts, the institution also conducts Sunday art classes for individuals of all ages who are interested in learning painting.
Beyond fine arts education, the institute provides expert training in graphic design, Photoshop, and digital painting.
Several character sketches, matte paintings, title designs, and storyboards for various films have been created by this institution. Some of the notable films that have benefited from their work include Brahma Yugam, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Pranayam, Maari, Honey Bee, Moothon, Adithattu, Aami, Utopiayile Rajavu, Njanum Ente Familyum, and Aash Black. Additionally, they have contributed to famous animation films such as Bombay Rose and Swami Ayyappan.
Furthermore, the institution has even been involved in creating concept art for various animation projects of Walt Disney, one of the most prestigious animation studios in the world.
The Managing Director of RK School of Fine Arts is Bijoy Kottakkal, who is also a filmmaker and concept artist. The Principal of the school is Artist Girish Naduvattam, and the faculty includes Mohammad Nihal, and Yadukrishnan Kozhikode, , who serve as fine arts instructors.
