The shop was born out of a lifelong fascination with clothing as a means of self-expression and storytelling. The approach to curating the collection is shaped by personal experiences and a deep connection to heritage. It’s about feeling the quiet melancholy of parents and grandparents lives despite existing under better circumstances. Associating with family history brought moments of shame and vulnerability, but also strength. There’s a bluntness in simplicity, a complexity in roughness, and a beauty in what might initially seem ordinary. Those observations now find their way into the selection and combining of clothing.

Having grown up in an environment where resourcefulness was essential, the need to dig and ‘make do’ sparked the love for finding treasures. Before launching the shop in march 2021, I spent years searching for clothing, accessories, and knickknacks online and offline. From browsing online markets to discovering hidden gems in local facilities, the process of selecting items is rooted in a blend of intuition, patience, and an eye for detail.

In my selection I look for garments and objects that have nuance to them and invite a second or even third glance. I appreciate craftsmanship, functionality and simplicity as well as dysfunctionality, kitsch and idealism. It’s possible for simple and clean as well as loud and obscure pieces to be timeless if they have an intriguing story to tell. Influences for the collection are a mix of the mid 2000s emo culture, with romantic, bold and layered styles, the simple cuts and muted color combinations of DDR working-class clothing, vintage costumes and family history. What comes with all of them is the mimicking of something else, a higher class, a romantic story, the ‘make do’ and the finding oneself in between the true self and the ideal creating a collection that feels both nostalgic and modern.
