About me
I am a Senior Lecturer in the English Department at the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE). I joined the MIE in 2008. My academic interests include language and literature teaching methodologies, media in education, values and citizenship education, and human rights education. I have been involved in projects pertaining to the implementation of communicative language teaching strategies at both primary and secondary level, and communities of practice in academic settings. I obtained my PhD in Education from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in 2021 and my thesis involved the exploration of English literature teachers' pedagogical choices at upper secondary level through narrative inquiry. My research interests are centred around teacher decision making, English language and literature pedagogies, literature didactics, and teacher agency.
I have been Head of the English Department from 2019 to 2023, and currently am responsible for Quality Assurance for Research.
I am also currently the Vice-President of the English Speaking Union (Mauritius), and have been a former Board member of the President’s Fund for Creative Writing, and Board member and Research Coordinator of the International English Language Teachers’ Association (Mauritius).
